A Lyric Consort Christmas

Northeastern Pennsylvania’s critically acclaimed professional vocal ensemble, the Lyric Consort, will present “A Lyric Consort Christmas” on Friday evening, December 8, 2023, beginning at 7:30 p.m.at the Hawley United Methodist Church, 315 Church Street, Hawley. Advance tickets will go on sale November 11th and will be available from Teeters’ Furniture, WeJo Arts, or B. Madigan Jewelry & Gifts, all in Hawley. Tickets are one-price, $15.00 per person.

The Lyric Consort presentation at Winterfest will feature a wide variety of works, spanning from the Renaissance to the present day. They will present the original 1818 version of Franz Gruber’s “Silent Night,” which will be sung in the original German with guitar accompaniment. Also planned will be an arrangement of “Winter Wonderland” with lyrics by Honesdale’s Dick Smith, as well as four carols by the contemporary British composer, Bob Chilcott. To close the program, they will perform the perennial favorite, Franz Biebl’s “Ave Maria.”

Formed in 1993 to explore the myriad riches of the world’s a cappella traditions, the Lyric Consort maintains an annual concert series at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Scranton and has performed throughout the Northeastern United States as part of the former Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour program. The ensemble has also given many performances at St. Stephen’s Pro-Cathedral and has been featured multiple times on the “Music from St. Stephen’s” program of WVIA-FM.

Meredith Huveneers, mezzo-soprano; Carol McMullen, alto; Lisa Cardoni, alto; Frank Spencer, tenor; Wes Poole, tenor; Max Roche, tenor/baritone; Christopher Gallo, artistic director/bass; and Francis McMullen, bass.

Tickets will also be available at the door beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the evening of the concert.
